Our Mom Eugenia, a popular Greek restaurant at Fairfax’s Mosaic District, is expanding. The locally owned eatery plans to take over the space next door, formerly occupied by The Italian Place.
“We’ve been operating out of 1,900 square feet plus some outdoor seating,” says Alexander Hobson, co-founder and owner of Our Mom Eugenia.
“So in winter months, we have to make do with the 54 indoor seats. We don’t have enough space to cater to the demand, so when the opportunity presented itself and the next-door space became available, we decided to go for it.”
Originally opened in August 2020 during the height of the pandemic, the restaurant has outposts in Shirlington and Great Falls.
Hobson hopes to use the Mosaic location’s addition of about 1,400 more square feet to accommodate its growing clientele.
“With this expansion, we will have the ability to cater private events and large parties,” he says. “It’s going to be another 48 indoor seats and 36 outdoor seats, and it’s going to be connected by a door that can be closed off for private events.”
The restaurant began in Great Falls in 2016, with Hobson, his brother Philip, and their mother, Eugenia, at the helm. Born and raised on the island of Zakynthos, Eugenia has been a chef for three decades and leads the culinary charge at the restaurants.
The authentic Greek dining spots have been a hit, serving traditional dishes like spanakopita, moussaka, and pastitsio.
“We’re very grateful for the support and patronage that we have received over the past four-and-a-half years at Mosaic,” Hobson says. “We hope to continue to live up to expectations — we always try to provide a high level of service and food.”
The growth means new employment opportunities. The expansion is presently undergoing the permit process. The restaurant owners hope to complete it between Thanksgiving and Christmas. 2985 District Ave., Fairfax
