July is National Ice Cream Month and there’s no better way to celebrate than with a larger-than-life ice cream cone. While we all have our favorite ice cream spot, we’re always open to trying something new. Here are a few new ice cream shops in Northern Virginia to check out this summer.

Authors Best-Selling Ice Creams

After exclusively selling at farmers markets for three years, Authors Best-Selling Ice Creams opened its first storefront in April. While pints and scoops are a must, ice cream lovers will want to save room for the donut panini and affogato. 44933 George Washington Blvd., Ste. 150, Ashburn

Fantasticks

These gelato treats will make your followers hungry. The dessert shop has two locations, one in Ashburn and one at Clarendon Crossing that opened on June 27. The brightly colored pops can be customized with chocolate, sprinkles, decorative candy, and other toppings to create your own one-of-a-kind dessert. 2800 Clarendon Blvd., Arlington

Ice Cream Jubilee

This ever-expanding ice cream franchise is adding two NoVA storefronts, in Falls Church and Reston. Known for its handcrafted scoops, Ice Cream Jubilee serves creative flavors, including Strawberries and Cream, Marionberry, and Matcha Green Tea. Both NoVA locations are expected to open later this year. 151 W. Falls Station Blvd., Falls Church; 11990 Market St., Reston

Lil’ Creamery

Have a hankering for cake and ice cream? Luckily, you can get both at the new Alexandria shop. The ice cream menu includes cones, milkshakes, pints, ice cream sandwiches, and a cake-n-cream cup. Cupcakes, brownies, cheesecakes, and other sweet bakery treats are also available to order. 1014 Madison St., Alexandria

Moo Thru

The drive to enjoy the slow-churned ice cream from Moo Thru is now much shorter for many Northern Virginians. Opening in early June, the new franchise still has all your favorite treats, including sundaes, soft serve, and special flavors. 317 Spring St., Herndon

Van Leeuwen

Virginia’s first Van Leeuwen storefront started selling scoops in June. The ice cream shop serves over 30 signature flavors, including Praline Butter Cake, Honeycomb, and Strawberry Shortcake. 269 19th Ct. S., Ste. 80, Arlington
